About

About

Hello! I'm Laura, a multidisciplinary Brand Identity Designer based in Vancouver, with a background in visual arts and a curiosity for the world around me. I see design as a form of translation: taking the essence of a business, the people behind it, and the world it exists within, and transforming those ideas into a visual language that feels meaningful, contemporary, and distinctly its own.

My practice is rooted in curiosity, collaboration, and conversation. I work closely with startups and growing businesses through a workshop-driven process that creates space to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and uncover what lies beneath the surface. Together, we explore a brand’s motivations, worldview, purpose, and relationship with its audience, while considering their needs, experiences, and pain points. These insights become the foundation for intentional art direction and cohesive identity systems across print, packaging, and digital design.

Beyond aesthetics, I believe design has the capacity to shape how we see and relate to the world. I’m drawn to working with people and brands that value empathy, ethical thinking, and ecological responsibility. I strive to create work that not only communicates clearly, but fosters meaningful connections between people, ideas, and the environments we inhabit.

Outside of client work, my practice becomes more experimental and intuitive. Music has always been a significant influence, particularly the hypnotic rhythms of techno and the haunting, synth-heavy textures of dark wave. I often enter a state of flow where sound, memory, and visual experimentation begin to overlap. Brutalism, acid graphics, grain, texture, distortion, collage, and abstraction become tools for exploring fleeting emotions, childhood nostalgia, and the more enigmatic parts of my imagination. This space gives me permission to play, experiment, and follow an idea simply because it feels interesting.

My creative journey began on the Saskatchewan prairies, where I discovered an early love for abstraction through painting with plaster, acrylics, and a palette knife. There was something meditative about letting go of control and allowing colour and texture to find their own relationships. In 2011, I moved to Montreal in search of a deeper cultural and artistic environment, where I explored image transfer, oil painting, and mixed media. It was there that I began to imagine a creative practice that could exist somewhere between art, psychology, and communication, eventually leading me to graphic design.

In 2013, I moved to Vancouver and pursued Graphic Design at the Visual College of Art and Design, followed by a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Design at Emily Carr University. Today, I continue to approach design as both a discipline and a way of looking at the world. I’m interested in where art direction, psychology, culture, and visual communication intersect, and I’m always looking for new ways to create identities that feel thoughtful, emotional, and alive without losing the sense of curiosity and play that brought me here in the first place.

Core Values

Core Values

01

Curiosity

I’m a lifelong student of the world, driven by a sense of wonder and a desire to understand how things and people work. I’m curious about culture, human behaviour, and the environments around us. I love finding new ways to research, explore, and uncover unexpected perspectives. For me, curiosity is an essential part of the creative process.

02

Openness

I believe in approaching people and ideas with openness, honesty, and empathy. I value creating space for different perspectives, listening without judgement, and remaining open to what others can teach us. To look beyond our own experience, to question what we assume we know, and to make room for new ways of seeing and understanding.

03

Ecologically Minded

Ecological responsibility is considered by default in my design practice. I believe in being thoughtful stewards of our planet and its resources, creating work that considers its environmental impact and the future. I aim to make intentional choices around materials, production, and longevity, while looking for opportunities to reduce waste and create more sustainable solutions. Good design should not only serve the needs of today, but also consider the world we leave behind.

04

Human-centred

Empathy is at the heart of my practice. I believe in understanding individual needs, experiences, and perspectives, disabilities, considering underrepresented voices and identifying pain points that may otherwise be overlooked. By putting people at the centre of the process, I aim to create meaningful connections and thoughtful design that genuinely resonates with the people it serves.
